Your surgeon should have advised which type they intend to use although sometimes this decision can be made in the operating theatre depending on the condition of the shoulder.
Anatomic (Standard) Shoulder replacement
A standard or ‘Anatomic’ shoulder replacement system replaces the ball and/or socket to replicate normal anatomy when the shoulder is injured or worn out (arthritis).

Reverse total shoulder replacement
A ‘Reverse’ total shoulder replacement reverses the ball and socket and is used when there severe damage to the shoulder either from injury such as a fracture or failure of the tendons.
